Trial ordered for three men charged in stabbing St
Three men charged with stabbing Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Mike Adams in June have been ordered to stand trial in Allegheny County, Pa. Adams testified in the hearing Thursday in Pittsburgh, the Associated Press reported Friday.
Adams,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in his second NFL season, was left with injuries to his colon that required surgery. He will be ready to participate when the Steelers open training camp Aug. 26 in Latrobe,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Pa., the AP reported. He spent four days in hospital recovery.
Eric Metz, an agent who accompanied Adams to the hearing, did not comment afterward and had not returned calls from Sporting News on his client's status.
The Steelers did not immediately return a call for comment on Adams' status for training camp,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or for reaction to the court hearing.
At the time of the attack, Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said in a statement that Adams "is expected to make a full recovery." Adams is listed as the starter at right tackle on the Steelers depth chart.
Jerrell Whitlock, Michael Paranay and Dquay Means face various charges between them, including attempted homicide,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in the June 1 incident in Pittsburgh, which police and prosecutors say was a botched carjacking.
No trial date was set at Thursday's preliminary hearing. All three men remained jailed,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The defendants' attorneys disputed the version of events Adams told in the hearing, claiming that Adams instigated the altercation that led to the stabbing. Still, District Court Judge Edward Tibbs ruled that there was probable cause to bring the case to trial.
The Steelers drafted Adams in the second round in 2012 out of Ohio State after his stock dropped because of testing positive for marijuana at the NFL Combine,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
