Geno Smith and Jay-Z Hip-hop moguls agency report
New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith is looking for new agents after his draft experience didn't go according to "The Blueprint,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]." Who then would be better to represent him than Jay-Z?
Roc Nation, an agency owned by the hip-hop mogul, was among the groups to make their pitches to Smith this week. Although Jay-Z isn't licensed to be an agent, his company's partnership with Los Angeles-based Creative Artists Agency would allow him to connect with Smith.
Jay-Z's best-known tie to New York sports was minority owner of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a stake he recently gave up. Roc Nation already has landed Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, and Jay-Z created some controversy when he helped bring over Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz to CAA last month. Cruz is looking for a new lucrative deal entering his fourth NFL season.
Based on his second-round status,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Smith isn't about to make megabucks with his rookie contract. But there's promise for bigger rewards down the line if he can ascend to the Jets' starting job, beginning with displacing Mark Sanchez in the 2013 season.
With the Jets' rookie minicamp set for this weekend,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Smith's "Hard Knock Life" in the league is about to begin in earnest,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. He isn't expected to rush his decision on new representatives to replace Select Sports Group. Roc Nation is one of several heavyweight suitors.
Knowing that Jay-Z is well versed in the "Empire State Of Mind," he may be the man to help put Smith's mind at ease off the field.
