ARLINGTON, Texas -- Jose Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre's Mexico side came up short Wednesday night, dropping a 2-1 result to Panama in the semifinal of the Gold Cup and putting the manager squarely on the hot seat,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if he wasn't there already.

As usual, Chepo handled the speculation about his job with class after the match, fending off questions about his safety as Mexico boss.

"Me and the national team, I have a contract for the whole [World Cup] process, and that hasn’t ended,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," he said. "The people who hired me are the ones to decide on that situation."
De la Torre also admitted that the team failed in its objective to win the Gold Cup,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but that the bigger prize is still on the table.
"The team has never put their heads down, they’ve always looked to work hard. Yes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we’ve tripped here and there,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and of course we want to meet our objectives," he said. "And in the end the objective is to get to the World Cup."
Despite the constant speculation about his job, De la Torre took responsibility for Mexico crashing out.
"At the end of the day the responsibility in on myself,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], because I’m the one who chose the players," he said.
