The Baltimore Orioles have acquired right-handed reliever Francisco Rodriguez from the Milwaukee Brewers for infield prospect Nick Delmonico.
The Orioles announced the move minutes before their game against the Royals in Kansas City on Tuesday,Monster Beats.
Rodriguez, 31, has been serving as the Brewers' closer. He converted all 10 of his save chances. In Baltimore, he likely will set up for closer Jim Johnson and be the ninth-inning option if Johnson falters.
Rodriguez's arrival should push setup relievers Darren O'Day and Tommy Hunter into middle-relief roles earlier in games,Beats By Dr Dre.
The move also takes away a trade option for the Boston Red Sox,Billiga Beats By Dr Dre, whom the Orioles are chasing in the American League East race. The Sox, who are in need of relief help, reportedly were among other suitors for Rodriguez.
Delmonico,Beats Sverige, who turned 21 on July 12, was a sixth-round draft pick of the Orioles in 2011. Baseball America rated him Baltimore's fourth-best prospect after last season. In 60 games this year for Class-A Frederick this season,Billiga Monster, he batted .244/.351/.435 with 13 home runs and 30 RBIs. He has experience and first,Beats by dre, second and third base.
He is the son of former University of Tennessee baseball coach Rod Delmonico.
