The Tampa Bay Buccaneers introduced their newest member Monday and it was obvious they couldn’t be happier.
“For us with Darrelle Revis, our thought was it’s an opportunity to add the elite player and a position of much need to our team,” Tampa Bay GM Mark Dominik said. “To me I’d rather spend it this way and make sure that we walk out with the player we want to believe in and that we do believe in, that can be an impact starter for our football team and really change us as a defense. And this is a known commodity that we really, strongly believe in and that’s why we pulled the trigger.”
On Sunday, the Buccaneers and New York Jets finalized a long-rumored deal that sent Tampa Bay’s No. 13 overall pick in this week’s draft as well as a condition fourth-round pick in 2014 for the All-Pro cornerback.
Revis agreed to a six-year contract worth $96 million, but with no guaranteed money. The 27-year-old lockdown cornerback is coming off a torn ACL that forced him to miss nearly the entire 2012 season.

On Monday, Revis didn’t talk about the status of his knee Monday, but Dominik was confident in where things stood.
“Where Darrelle will be on the day we open camp is on the field,” the GM told reporters. “And where he’ll be opening day is playing against the Jets. That’s what I believe.”
