Donovan McNabb Stafford has done nothing for Lion
Donovan McNabb is the go-to former quarterback when it comes to criticizing current NFL quarterbacks who get big money. His current target? The Detroit Lions' Matthew Stafford.
The Lions on Tuesday agreed to give Stafford and will pay him $76.5 million over the next five years. McNabb, the same night on the NFL Network, made it clear that he thought Stafford was well overcompensated.
"When you look at just the numbers overall, you have to think about 12,000 yards and being the youngest quarterback to reach this feat and also the things he's been able to accomplish, you know you begin to question this,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," . "Now, as a quarterback and as Matt Stafford, hey, I would take that contract just like Tony Romo took his contract. But is he worth top-five money? I would have to say no. And I say that because it's about wins and losses.
"What has he really done for the Detroit Lions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]? Nothing."
Back in March, you will recall that to rip the Dallas Cowboys for giving Romo a seven-year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], $119.5 million contract with $55 million guaranteed.
His reasoning: "Wow really, with one playoff win. You got to be kidding me."
Romo does, however,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], carry a career regular-season record of 55-38. That's in contrast to Stafford, who lost his only playoff game (after the 2011 season) and has a 17-28 regular-season record.
With one of the league's biggest arms, Stafford, 25,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], led the NFL with a whopping 1,390 passing attempts over the past two seasons. He threw for 10,005 yards with 61 TD passes and 33 interceptions in 2011 and '12.
We can't wait for Atlanta's Matt Ryan to sign his big contract extension later this offseason,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so McNabb can be unimpressed with another high first-round draft pick.
