Also Check out a sneak peak online.
Browsing the Cheap Eats guide there is a wide range of restuarants in locations all over the DC area in and out of the city from Annandale, VA to Wheaton, MD, with varied cusines anywhere from Afghan to Vietnamese.
It is no surprise that there are many ethnic cuisines included in the guide as the DC area is very well known to native Washingtonians and travelers alike to having a wide range of ethnic foods of all kids. Just so happens that ethnic foods such as Pho, Vietnamese, Ethiopian,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Korean, and Indian food are relatively inexpensive and provide a glimpse into a new world and culture without having to board a plane.
Some of the Cheap Eats best picks include:
Buzz's All American Flag Cupcakes for July 4
Buzz Can't go wrong with this cafe, bakery and lounge operated by three time Best Pastry Chef of the Year Rammy Nominee Chef,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Josh Short and his team. Looking for a thematic sesonal treat? Buzz will have just the thing, no matter what holiday. July 4th is coming up. Buzz will have patriotic treats for your celebration. Enjoy breakfast breads, salads, sandwiches, paninis, and baked goods. Cookies run about $2.25 a piece, cupcakes around $3.95 and whole pies or cakes start at $16. (901 Slaters Ln., Alexandria, VA)
BGR the Burger Joint With locations spread far and wide across the DC area, including Bethesda, MD, Arlington, VA, Alexandria, VA and Dupont Circle, DC, hopefully you've had the opportunity to give one of Mark Butcher's fresh and juicy burgers made to order a try. With fresh handground dry agedbeef and buttery thick brioche buns, you're bound to get hooked. My favorite? The basic cheeseburger with cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Best bargain is their Daily Lunch special: A burger, fries, and drink for $8.99.

Eamonn's Cathal Armstrong's Fish Chips. Eamonn named after the Dublinborn Chef Armstrong son, is a traditional chipper, in that you order at the counter and grab a seat, and wait for your name to be called with your order. The wait can be a long one, since everything is served fresh and there are only 30 seats, including the counter with stools. The menu is squalled on a chalk board that hangs over the cashier counter. You have your basic cod in two sizes and fried Ray. They offer a few choices for sides that includes two sizes of bachelor baked beans,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], onion rings, coleslaw, and peas. They throw in one homemade sauce, and you have a choice of seven, such as traditional tarter sauce, Rose (ketchup and mayo), Kitty O (capers and kalamata olives), Chesapeake, Hot Chili, Fronch, and Curry. It's not fancy; your fish and chips comes in a paper bag but you will swear that the fish is the freshest that you've ever tasted. The cod is perfectly cooked, moist, flaky, and the batter is light and is almost crunchy. (728 King St., Alexandria, VA)
Etete, U Street's Ethiopian neighborhood Gem. I've been here once with my husband and we thought it was an experience of a lifetime. Not everyday do you eat with your hands using Injera (bread) to sop up your food to your mouth. My favorites: the Sambosa (Beef or Lentil: Triangular shaped pastry crust filled with fried beef,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], green, pepper, jalapeno, onion); the Yefem Tibs (Etete Special) described on the menu as charcoal broiled sliced prime tender beef marinated in white wine and rosemary,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with a touch of garlic and black pepper. (1942 9th St., NW)
Galbitang. Photo by Lisa Shapiro
Gom Ba Woo, authentic Korean food in Annandale. Gom Ba Woo has which name means, "Bear" has made Washingtonian's 100 Very Best Restaurant List in 2007 and continues to make Washingtonian's Cheap Eats list every year. They offer the best Jin Mandoo (steamed dumplings) in the area. The steamed dumplings portion is large enough for at least three people. The Galbitang or the Beef rib soup is one of most commonly found soups in Korean cuisine and served at many traditional Korean ceremonies and celebrations. The Galbitang has tender meat, cut in cubes, some still hanging off the bone. It is so tender you can cut it with a spoon. The soup also has fresh daikon, long green onions, drizzled egg, and chewy rice noodles. It's a bargain as long as you go and split appetizers with others. Main entrees alone will fill you up on the cheap.
Pho 75 With locations in Northern Virginia and Maryland , it's known by many local Vietnamese as the most authentic place to find pho (pronounced fuh) in the DC area. This traditional Vietnamese soup comes in over 15 varieties at Pho 75, with bible tripe, blends of flank steak, brisket, eye of round and tendon. Two other options include meatballs or chicken. A mound of silky rice noodles is served immersed in the savory beef broth and peppered with sliced white and green onions. Pho bowls come in just two sizes: small or large, and are served alongside fresh basil, bean sprouts,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and slices of lime and jalapenos. It's a bargain for sure at just $7 for a large bowl. My favorite: the 12 with eyeround and welldone beef brisket.
